Class Description:
Hip Hop Foundations - Open level
Hip Hop dance is a freestyle base artform under the umbrella of Street Dance, also known as “Street Styles”. It was popularized in the early 70s and is rooted within the Black and Afro-Latinx communities of New York City.
This class will ease you into learning and understanding: Grooving techniques, Hip Hop vocabulary, musicality and the art of Freestyle.
Sophia Laurio also known as “Sosa” is a Filipina dance artist and educator based in Vancouver, BC Canada. Sophia consistently trains in New York City also known as the Mecca of Hip Hop, under the guidance of Hip Hop dance pioneers: Elite Force, Dance Fusion and Lite Feet Nation.
With the pure Street Dance knowledge passed onto her, she is known as one of the few main sources for Hip Hop foundations in Vancouver, BC.
Sophia teaches Hip Hop dance at Simon Fraser University: School for the Contemporary Arts and various local dance studios in all of Metro Vancouver.
