FREE Aerial and Acrobatic Dance Classes with Corporeal Imago
Days: Tuesday and Thursday
Time: 10am-12 noon
Location: CircusWest, 2901 E Hastings St, Vancouver
Classes are FREE and available for drop-in. Please note that class repertoire will progress over the 12-week period.
Classes are intended for professional dancers seeking to further their professional development.
Class Description:
Tuesday Aerial Dance and Conditioning with Gabrielle Martin:
Using aerial rope and fabric, participants will learn creative ascending and descending vocabulary, aerial coordination, balances, spiral sequences, and how to harness momentum.
Thursday Floor-based Acrobatic Dance with Jeremiah Hughes:
Participants will work on skills such as fly-overs, macacos, 540s, butterflies, walkovers, b-twists, 1990s, back and front handsprings, and more.
Classes start with a warm-up for coordination, mobilization and muscle activation, progress to dynamic, fluid sequences, and finish with conditioning for core and upper body strength.

Gabrielle Martin is a choreographer and live arts curator with an extensive background as a professional dance and circus artist. She has a BFA in Contemporary Dance from Concordia University (Montréal) and a Certificate in Circus Dramaturgy from the Centre National des Arts du Cirque (Châlons-en-Champagne). From 2011-2019, she performed in over 1,400 shows as an aerialist and dancer with Cavalia, and as a principal character and aerial soloist with Cirque du Soleil before becoming Co-Artistic Director of the aerial dance company Corporeal Imago.
Her teaching practice is informed by her full STOTT Pilates, ACE Personal Training, and YogaTrapeze instructor certifications. She has taught Aerial Choreography with EN PISTE, Canada's National Circus Arts Alliance, as well as aerial technique workshops at festivals and studios in Canada, USA, and Europe.
Jeremiah Hughes is a choreographer, dance and theatre artist, and contemporary acrobatic dance teacher. He trained at the Canadian Dance Company (Toronto), Randolph College for the Performing Arts (Toronto), and Broadway Dance Center (NYC). He was a featured soloist on So You Think You Can Dance, and has performed with artists such as Bruno Mars, Meatloaf, and Taylor Swift, and in large-scale shows such as PEEPSHOW, JUBILEE!, Britain’s Got Talent, Franco Dragone’s LE REVE, Cirque du Soleil’s Viva ELVIS, and played the lead male role in Cirque Du Soleil’s TORUK - The First Flight. He is Co-Artistic Director of Corporeal Imago.
Jeremiah has developed his teaching practice as dance captain with Cirque du Soleil, as an acrobatic coach at CircusWest, and guest dance instructor at various studios, including, most recently, Lamondance.
